Once US market was hot destination for Surat Surat Diamond and Jewelry exporters. But recently with rising inflation in US market it has taken toll on the exports of the gems and jewelry from India in the last few months. Diamond barons are now changing gear towards emerging markets such as Middle East, Japan ,Europe and etc.
Industry pundits says ,the buying trend in the Gulf is mainly because of dramatic increase in disposable in come from record oil prices of late. The demand for diamond Jewellery has gone up other CIS countries also. The US market is no longer the hoot destination for Jewellery and polished Diamond exports. Diamond businessman are now targeting their exports to new emerging markets in a big way. As against 2007, India’s exports of Diamond and Diamond-studded precious metal to USA has declined by 33% in year December 2006 which is the main destination for this product. According to Rjeev Pandey, president of Gems and Jewellery Manufacturer Association, a leading jeweler export hub in Mumbai. Around 80 to 85 percent of jeweler produced in zone is exported to USA. Pandya said, "Besides US recession, a combination of other factors like termination of GSP benefits by the US on Indian jeweler since July 2007.Adverse impact of Appreciating rupee,increaing cost of gold and rough diamonds and severe competition from China, have seriously effected the Jewelery exports to US." Many Surat Diamond companies like Sangavi Diamond Exports Harekrishna Exports, Rosy Blue ,Karp Impex, Ramkrishnma Exports, Venus jewels etc. have been planning to increase their presence in Gulf countries, Europe, Japan and other CIS countries. "I see Middle East as the robust market for diamond jewelery, thus our company has taken a firm stand on the growth from the Gulf," said Chandrakant Sangahavi, director Sanghavi Export. A senior executive from Rosy is planning to increase its presence in Middle East after increasing sales of 58 per cent in the region during 2007, We are targeting sales increase of 108 per cent to $25 million for 2008." So days are not far when Diamond jewelry exporters hot destination will be Middle east and eastern Asia rather than USA.
