Taking an initiative, Surat Textile Market has taken a good step to issue I-Card to its workers to curb fraud that day by day news media keep splashing. Surat grey markets has taken an inactive in this direction and has decided to issue I-Cards to its workers.

According to new arrangement to curb the increasing cases of thefts of the grey fabrics bundles from the Surat Textile Market areas, the Grey Fabrics Delivery Contractors Association (FFDCA) has decided to issue identity cards to about 20,000 workers engaged in ferrying bundles of grey fabrics.

Few days ago, the association has issued around 8,000 identity cards and that they intend to complete the procedure in the next 10 days. The textile traders, weavers and the factory owners have been asked to hand over the bundles of grey fabrics and finished goods to the workers only to those having the identity cards issued by GFDCA.

Sources said the cheaters operating in the Surat textile market[L] get the delivery of grey fabrics on behalf of the contractors and that they perish with the goods worth thousands of rupees. Important things is that , while these contractors responsible for transportation of fabrics have taken up the initiative, but the,FOSTTA, despite efforts for past several years, has not been successful in making I-cards for traders and workers in over 55,000 shops in textile market, to help curb the cases of defaults and frauds in the markets.

“The I –cards system is not prevalent in the market. But we do have the database of the tenants, owners, workers etc. in each of the shops in the markets According to Manghani, there has been couple of instances in the past where the defaulters have been traced out from their whereabouts in other states, based on their database with the federation” Said Devkishan Manghani, general secretary, FOSSTA . |

It seems that Surat Sarees Manufacturers should learn a lesson from this and they should also issue cards to their workers to curb theft.
